Free first step for renter’s insurance

Hope for 121.5
There's still hope for your 121.5 MHz ELT. The FCC on June 15 released notice of a rule that would prohibit the certification, manufacture, importation, sale, or continued use of 121.5 MHz ELTs, but AOPA reached out to the FCC, FAA, and several other affected organizations immediately to oppose the rule.

Avgas: Beyond the 'silver bullet'
For 20 years, the GA industry has been looking for a fuel that has all the benefits of the current avgas that uses tetraethyl lead but none of the drawbacks. To date, no fuel has been proven to match 100LL point for point, although research at a number of companies continues. As the EPA takes preliminary steps toward the setting of emission standards that will ultimately lead to the removal of lead in avgas, industry groups are developing a path for all options, including those currently in development, to be vetted across a spectrum of cost, availability, ease of production, performance, and environmental impact.

Aircraft re-registration requirement on horizon
A rule requiring aircraft re-registration is awaiting FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt's signature and could go into effect this fall. Currently, there is a one-time aircraft registration with a $5 fee; the new rule would require that aircraft be re-registered every three years, and the fee for that is yet unknown.

Air Force requests revised times of use for Texas MOA
The FAA is seeking comments on an Air Force proposal to change the times of use for the Brady Low Military Operations Area near Austin, Texas, from intermittent by notam to a set time of sunrise to 10 p.m. local, Monday through Friday, and as needed by notam. The shape, size, altitude, and activities within the MOA would not change.
